Legislative changes impact car rental contracts
Federal Government Employees should be aware that car rental contracts must be made out to \"Canada, as represented by <insert department name>.\" This is an important instruction, as failure to do so may affect the insurance coverage of the traveller.
The following excerpt from the Accommodation and Car Rental Directory (ACRD) provides more details:
\"(?) employees should be aware that the rental contracts must be made out to \"Canada, as represented by (insert department name)\". This must apply at all times as insurance laws have changed in Ontario and Alberta that now stipulate that, if this is not done, then the employee?s own car insurance becomes the insurance of first instance for Public Liability and Property Damage (PL/PD). Please make sure that your rental contract reflects this information at the time of pick-up.\"
