Update on Recognizing Canadian Forces Service for Annual Leave Purposes
You will recall the government?s intention to recognize prior Canadian Forces service for purposes of determining annual leave entitlements. Until recently, it was unclear precisely how this was going to be accomplished.
In a presentation to union leaders at a recent last National Joint Council Meeting, we learned the TBS will change the Directive on Terms and Conditions of Employment to permit Canadian Forces time to be recognized for annual leave purposes. Once this is done, each union will have the opportunity to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to put these changes into effect for their respective members.
Credit for these changes belongs to the individual members that lobbied their respective Members of Parliament and other government officials. It is testament to the fact that members working together can achieve great things.
