IBEW Members Ratify NAV CANADA Agreement
I\'m pleased to report that our NAV CANADA bargaining unit has ratified the tentative agreement reached on November 26, 2013. This is a historic achievement. For the first time in our history with NAV CANADA we have negotiated a new collective agreement in advance of the current agreement\'s expiry. More importantly, this agreement includes long sought after improvements in overtime compensation for the members and three years of labour relations stability.
This agreement could not have been reached without the hard work and professionalism of both negotiating teams. Collective bargaining is never easy but this round was particularly challenging. The changes to the pension plan and the intense discussion on overtime and TOIL were major issues. However, the preparation and efforts of all involved made this agreement possible and acceptable to the majority of the members.
Early in the new year I will be meeting with labour relations and the payroll department to smooth the transition to the new overtime and time off in lieu provisions which are set to take effect on April 1. A meeting of the negotiating team, Chief Stewards and operational managers will also take place to discuss the terms of the new agreement. Finally, the union?s negotiating team will be returning to Ottawa to debrief the President and sign your new collective agreement.
In closing, I extend my thanks to the negotiating team for their hard work. All agreements mutually arrived at are something worth celebrating but this one stands above the crowd.
In solidarity,
Daniel J Boulet
