An Open Letter to All Volunteers of IBEW Local 2228
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
You could be forgiven for not knowing that this week is National Volunteer Week. Like so many volunteers, this week will likely come and go without proper recognition. So I thought I would take a small step to change this and shed a bit on light on you and what you do.
The fact is you are the backbone of this union. Whether you are a National Officer, Unit Chair, Unit Recorder, or Shop Steward we would not be able to achieve anything without your help and generosity. Whether you give your time, energy, or ideas you make Local 2228 what it is: a union that cares.
You are the unsung heroes of Local 2228. Some of you have been formally recognized as recipients of the President\'s Award or the Outstanding Stewardship Award. But ALL of you contribute in ways which aren?t visible to most of us. Anytime you contact or meet a member to provide advice or support, take minutes or chair a unit meeting, attend a training course or seminar, or even organize a social event you are helping bring people together. You are creating a union.
To quote our Governor General, the Right Honourable David Johnston: ?National Volunteer Week gives us an opportunity to thank volunteers whose valued contributions enrich our collective well-being...\" So, on behalf of all the members of Local 2228, thank you for your contribution and for enriching the collective well-being of your fellow members. You help in ways you will never know. I would like those you help to always know.
In Solidarity,
Daniel J Boulet
Business Manager / Financial Secretary
