NAV CANADA JTC Makes Progress on Continued Competency Program
New systems are being installed that are highly reliable and require less preventative maintenance. This is good news because modern air traffic control systems need a reliable infrastructure to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. At the same time it is important to find ways to ensure that our members are competent and confident to perform their duties when called upon to do so. The IBEW members of the Joint Technical Committee have been listening to your concerns about the need to maintain standards of competence and want to make sure that these concerns are addressed. As such, we have been working closely with NAV CANADA Tech Ops management, as well as field representatives to create a Continued Competency Program to meet these challenges.
Members of the JTC have met several times with the most recent meeting taking place on the week of May 9. Several criteria were considered in the design of the Program including relevance of activities, roles and responsibilities, and logistics. There has been considerable work done on this project and it is nearing completion.
Our goal is to announce a pilot of the Continued Competency Program following the next meeting of the Joint Technical Committee in mid-June. Stay tuned for more information.
