Nav Canada Imposes Further layoffs

IBEW LU 2228 regrets that Nav Canada has decided to impose further layoffs before completing the seniority bumping process for the original group of surplus employees.  The new group of surplus employees will be added to the existing process which will cause a further delay.

Over the past several weeks the Local has been continually trying to finalize the bumping process in an attempt to bring some closure for the members involved, however, the company has caused one delay after another.

The IBEW Canadian office, IBEW LU 2228, and the other unions that form the Nav Canada Bargaining Agents Association are actively lobbying the federal government in an attempt to secure funding and stop any future workforce adjustment. We are attempting to make the Federal Government realize that Nav Canada cannot be treated like other companies in the aviation sector and that Nav Canada, the sole Air Navigation Service Provider in the country must remain at or near pre-COVID levels of staffing to maintain the critical infrastructure and provide the information required by the airlines to travel safely when air traffic starts to increase.

We appreciate your professionalism and steadfast resolve in the face of adversity.  Thank you for your patience.

In Solidarity
