Government Bargaining Conference - OTTAWA

Local 2228 will be holding a pre-bargaining conference for our Federal Government bargaining unit members.  This conference, to be held on March 26 and 27, will supplement the usual steering committee process used to vet specific member?s proposals.  Furthermore, this conference will build on an earlier meeting which took place last November.

As part of the federal government\'s budget implementation act, the Harper Government implemented many changes to the PSLRA which will have a significant impact on collective bargaining.  Although the changes are well known and publicly available (link to C-4 here), what is less clear is the impact on our particular bargaining unit particularly in the area of collective bargaining dispute resolution and our right to strike.  So the conference aims to educate the participants on the changes to the Act, how the changes might affect bargaining and different approaches to bargaining which could strengthen the union\'s hand.

This conference is primarily open to Officers and Stewards employed by the Federal Government.  However, we recognize that many rank and file members take a keen interest in the collective bargaining process so the conference will be open to them as well.

If you wish to participate in the conference, please complete the registration form .  If you are not able to attend the conference, but wish to share your thoughts about collective bargaining, feel free to complete the form and provide your feedback in the appropriate place.

In Solidarity,

Daniel J Boulet
Business Manager / Financial Secretary
