Memorandum of Agreement Reached on Drug and Alcohol Policy
NAV CANADA and IBEW Local 2228 reached an agreement on the interpretation and application of NAV CANADA?s Drug and Alcohol Policy for IBEW members who are on standby. The agreement follows discussions during and after collective bargaining on how such a policy might impact IBEW members on standby for extended periods of time.
The agreement amends the definition of ?On Duty? to exclude periods when the employee is on standby. The agreement also recognizes that it is unreasonable to expect employees to abstain from alcohol while on extended periods of standby.
Naturally, both the IBEW and NAV CANADA expect their respective members and employees to act responsibly and professionally.
This agreement addresses the concerns raised in bargaining and clarifies an individual employee?s responsibilities under the Policy.
Members are urged to contact their Business Representative or the Business Office with any questions or concerns.
