I am very pleased to announce the appointment of new officers of Local 2228.  In the past several weeks and months the Executive Board has appointed Ryan Saw as Treasurer and John Ducey, Blaine Thomas and Kirk Ali as Region Representatives.

Ryan Saw has been a member of Local 2228 since joining Nav Canada in 2000.  His union involvement began as a shop steward in 2006 and has increased steadily since.  Ryan has participated in National Steering Committees, is the Vice Chair of his local unit and has most recently been involved in the Local?s work with IFATSEA and ICAO. Ryan?s appointment as Treasurer became effective on April 1.

John Ducey first served as a union officer near the beginning of his career with DND as both a member of the UNDE Local 80406 Executive and a shop steward. Since becoming a member of Local 2228 he has continued to be involved as an active union member.  Most recently John participated on the National Steering Committee for the federal government members and currently serves on the negotiating team for the present round of bargaining. John?s appointment as Region 1 Representative became effective in February.

Blaine Thomas has been a member since joining Nav Canada as an ATM Technologist in 2000.  He was instrumental in the creation of the very active Winnipeg unit in 2010 and served as a unit officer ever since. Blaine?s appointment as Region 5 Representative became effective in November 2014.

Kirk Ali has been a Nav Canada technologist in Toronto for 8 years and a shop steward for 6. He is active in his local unit and has served as its recorder for the past 2 years. Kirk?s appointment as Region 4 Representative became effective in September 2014.

All four of these officers have a history of commitment to their union and their profession. I very much look forward to working with them in their new leadership roles with the Local.
